The Neurosciences Institute at GW Hospital is a premier neurological center. We provide comprehensive care by an internationally recognized team of neurosurgeons, neurologists and specialists for patients with disorders affecting the brain and nervous system. We treat all types of conditions, including epilepsy, movement disorders, concussions, brain and spinal tumors, spine issues and pain disorders.

Keeping You Safe

At GW Hospital, your safety and health are our top priority. That’s why we put safety protocols in place for in-office visits, including enhanced disinfection of high-traffic areas, physical distancing in the lobby and waiting areas, and required masking of all patients, visitors and staff at all times. The hospital regularly cares for patients with highly infectious disease and we continue to follow best practice guidelines to identify, isolate and care for COVID-19 patients, as well as other patients with potentially infectious disease.

Comprehensive Stroke Center

In addition, GW Hospital is a designated Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission and American Heart Association, which reflects our ability to care for the most complex stroke cases.

Advanced Epilepsy Care

Epilepsy is a brain condition characterized by repetitive, spontaneous seizures. GW Hospital is a designated Level 4 Epilepsy Center by The National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC), which is the highest distinction awarded by the NAEC. Level 4 centers meet the highest standard of care and provide the most advanced monitoring and treatment available. Learn more about diagnosing and treating epilepsy in this podcast:

GW Hospital provides specialized care for patients with Parkinson’s disease, tremors, restless leg syndrome, tics and other movement disorders. The neurologists and neurosurgeons at GW Hospital have the education, training and experience to evaluate, diagnose and treat these conditions. Our goal is to provide comprehensive care. We offer advanced treatment options for these disorders, including brain and spinal cord stimulation.

Spine Issues and Pain Disorders

Neurosurgeons at GW Hospital can help patients with spine issues and pain disorders manage their condition and get the most out of life. They utilize advanced procedures, including minimally invasive spine surgery, microvascular surgery, decompression surgery, complex reconstructive and deformity surgery and injections. Care is available for a wide range of issues, including back pain, neck pain, ruptured discs, debilitating spine disease, facial pain, scoliosis and more.

Virtual Reality Helped Save Her Life

Danielle Collins was admitted to GW Hospital after she was diagnosed with a rare brain condition. She had a brain bleed caused by an abnormal tangle of blood vessels and needed surgery. Neurosurgeons at GW Hospital used advanced virtual reality technology to help save her life.

The team used VR to help plan the surgery and give Danielle a 360-degree view into her own anatomy. After the surgery, the team used VR again – this time to show Danielle the procedure was a success. She’s fully recovered now and back to her active lifestyle. “The level of care I felt was unparalleled to any I’ve ever felt in my life,” she says.
